She rests her head on his shoulder and he wraps his arm around her. They start watching TV.

He switches the channel until finding something that catches his eye and makes him smile.

ALAN

Remember the first time we watched this? You were speechless.

AMY groans quietly but loud enough to make ALAN notice. He turns slightly towards her and gives her a quizzical look.

AMY closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She sits up and faces ALAN.

AMY

I… I hated it.

ALAN shrugs and scoffs in disbelief. He takes a glimpse at AMY, whose face is dead serious. ALAN’s smile fades as AMY chuckles.

ALAN

You liking The Lord of the Rings is the only reason I asked you out.

AMY

I know. That’s why I pretended I did.

ALAN

Who are you? Is your name really Amy?

ALAN takes the cup of jello and holds it up to AMY.

ALAN

Do you even like jello?

AMY

I do more than I like this movie.

AMY laughs. ALAN’s eyes widen and he shakes his head.

ALAN

This is worse than cancer.

AMY turns to the TV.

AMY

Exactly. It’s way too long, incredibly boring and full of cheesy moments.

ALAN is speechless while AMY smiles unapologetically and winks at him.

Suddenly a knock on the door. TIM (30s), tall, blond and blue-eyed male nurse comes in rolling a WHEELCHAIR.

TIM

(cheerful)

What’s up, A team? They’re waiting for you downstairs, A man.

ALAN

And now this homewrecker.

AMY stands up making room on the bed.

TIM frowns and looks at AMY, who shakes her head suggesting to ignore ALAN.

TIM

Third time’s the charm, right?

TIM rolls the wheelchair closer to the bed. He lowers one of the railings, bending down to lift ALAN up.

AMY

Exactly. Thank you, Tim.

ALAN puts his arms around TIM’s neck and he lifts ALAN up.

ALAN

I don’t care. You can have her.

She doesn’t like The Lord of the Rings anyway.

TIM

That’s nuts. Everybody likes The Lord of the Rings.

AMY rolls her eyes while TIM lowers ALAN into the wheelchair.

TIM pushes the wheelchair. AMY walks behind them. ALAN notices and blocks her with his arm.

ALAN spins his finger indicating to TIM to turn him around.

ALAN

You’re not going anywhere.

AMY

Of course I am.

AMY takes a step forward before ALAN grabs her waist making her stop.

ALAN

No. You need to appreciate this masterpiece. Tim, let’s go.

TIM

He’s just nervous, Ames. Come with and he’ll be over it.

ALAN

I honestly hope you are a better fuck than you are a friend, Tim.

ALAN turns to AMY.

ALAN

I’ll make you a deal. Watch the film and if you still don’t like it,

we’ll go to see that awful punk band you like so much.

AMY

Serial Killer Mice?

Her eyes light up as she smiles.

ALAN

(to himself)

I’m regretting this already.

AMY winks at him and reaches out for a handshake. He does the same and they close the deal.

ALAN holds on to her hand then pulls her towards him and gives her a kiss.

AMY puts her free hand on the back of ALAN’s head and what was supposed to be a short kiss turns into something much longer.

TIM feels a bit uncomfortable so he clears his throat to get them to stop. They do.

Still holding it, ALAN rubs his thumb softly on AMY’s hand, traveling down her fingers.

AMY tries to catch one more touch of ALAN’s hand but TIM rolls the wheelchair away taking it out of her reach.

AMY sighs and walks back to the bed. She sits on it and reaches for the remote control.
